On Tuesday in Vonore, TN, a lesbian couple filed a law suit against their neighbors saying they are responsible for the fire that destroyed their home in September. Other charges, according to WBIR.com, include “trespassing and conversion, intentional infliction of emotional distress and malicious harassment.” The couple claims their neighbor has been harassing them since they bought their home in June of 2005. The neighbor has made derogatory statements to them such as, "The only thing better than one dead queer is two dead queers." The couple has court documents to support their claims of harassment from their neighbor. They have called the police several times. However, no charges were filed against their neighbor. At one time the neighbor threatened to poison their dog. Shortly after, their dog was found dead poisoned by some raw meat in his yard. He claimed the dog wandered into his yard, but denies poisoning the dog.
In September, the couple decided to sell their home and went on vacation. While they were gone on vacation, they were notified by the fire officials their house had burned down.
It is terrible that someone should have to endure that type of harassement. The police not taking the matter seriously allowed the situation to escalate into something that should have never happened. The police have a job to do and should leave any and all prejudices aside. What if they had been in the home when the house caught on fire? Them being a lesbian couple has nothing to do with him and he should have let them live their lives in peace. You don't have to agree with someone else's lifestyle. But, you do have to leave them alone and you don't have the right to harass them and make their life miserable.
That is just down right terrible.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why the police department isn't getting into any trouble. I'm a new GFC follower from Swinging by Sunday. http://www.grandmasguidetolife.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThis is horrible....such a shame there are so many prejudice people in this world :(
ReplyDeleteIt is horrible. The only think I can come up with is maybe there just wasn't enough evidence to convict the neighbor. Who knows?
ReplyDeleteWow what a crazy story.
ReplyDeleteI just found you through one of the Sunday blog hops! Have a great rest of the weekend.

Found you through the Tickle Me Tuesday hop and am now following. In regards to this story, I just don't understand how someone can hate another person so much based on something so minor as their sexual orientation that they would do something so horrible as burning down their house. What is wrong with people?
ReplyDeleteI don't understand it either. Hate is a terrible thing and eats people alive.
ReplyDeleteI do not understand people and how ignorant they are or how cruel they can be. often times these people are the one who go to church every sunday to pray to God and they think of them self as good people. Please do not think that i am bashing religion or anything like that.
ReplyDeleteEven though we live in 21 century and like to think that as human race we are intelligent and advanced, but we are not. When you look around you and see what other people do to other people it brings you right back to middle ages. it saddens me, makes me angry. olso, you have police who took an out to serve and protect, but it appears for some of those officers (not all of them) this oath excluded black, or homosexuals or anyone else who does not fit in their mold of what is the right sexual oriantation, or religion, or color of my skin.
I agree with you. There is only one race, the human race. Thank you for stopping by. :)
