They Never Listen

I don't know what it is about my children, but they act like everything I tell them is a joke. This morning I told my son to take his lanyard out of his pocket and put it in his back pack, because he was going to lose it with the lanyard hanging out his pocket. He looked at me and gave me an annoyed look when I told him. Then when we get up to the school, he get's out of the truck and reaches for his lanyard. Well, it was gone and was no where to be found. I had to drive back to the house and look for it and back to the school again to look for it in the parking lot before dropping my daughter off at the bus stop. The lanyard with his school ID was gone. I am sure it will show up somewhere, but for now he had to go to school without his ID. Somehow, he will manage to try and tell me, it had nothing to do with it hanging out of his pocket and he doesn't know how he lost it.

Toddler Found Chewing On Snake

Thirteen-month-old Imad Aleeyan, who has six teeth, was found by his mother chewing on a snake.

The toddlers mother said, "I was making his milk and I looked over and saw he had a snake in his mouth," said his mother, Ghadir Aleeyan who lives in the Arab Israeli town of Shefa'Amr, 9 miles east of the port city of Haifa.
"I started to scream. I couldn't believe my eyes," she told AFP. "I nearly died of fright."
A neighbor who had rushed to see what all the screaming was about, pulled the half dead snake from the toddlers mouth and the family rushed him to the hospital. The doctor said, "Doctors at the hospital told us the snake was really poisonous but that we were very lucky because they release less venom in the winter."
"It probably didn't bite the child because of the cold," said Dr Shacham who is the head of the herpetology collection at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
"They are not really active in winter."

Moving...

Moving is so completely exhausting. It took two weeks to pack it up and now it's time to unpack everything and put it all away. I feel like I have been run over by a Mack truck. I have been working on moving for three weeks nonstop and I can't wait for it to be all done and things can get back to normal.

Today I just feel like my body has run out fuel and all I want to do is climb back into bed and go back to sleep.   With move my schedule has just got more busy. Things weren't as easy as before, there's a whole lot more driving kids around. Between driving my son to school and picking him up, then dropping my daughter off at the bus stop then having to pick her up. It's not like the old days where I could just send them out the front door and the bus stop was across the street. Oh well, you do what you have to do and move on with it.

Then to add to change, I have never driven around where I am living now and am finding myself not knowing how to get anywhere, including the local stores. Thank God for technology. I find myself making good use out of the GPS on my cell phone, it get's me where ever I need to go.

One thing I am feeling much better about, is the move is good for the kids. The area is much nicer and has good schools where I won't have to worry about them as much. When I moved to where I lived before, it was a nice area. But, it is going down hill fast over there and things weren't looking too good. A fresh start is always a good thing.

Paula Deen

All the fuss the media are making out of Paula Deen developing Type 2 diabetes is ridiculous. She is aging, she is bound to start developing some health problems eventually and they are just making a bigger deal out of it than it needs to be.

Yes, she has a cooking show and enjoys cooking food the old fashioned way. A lot people in America have type 2 diabetes. But, all the media picking at how she cooks and her getting diabetes is a little over the top. A lot of people have bad eating habits, she's not the first and she won't be the last. We are all not perfect. I say just let her deal with it and make the best of it. Maybe she will start running cooking shows on how to cook the same dishes with healthier options.

I just couldn't imagine finding out you have health problems, then have all these people tell you it's your own fault because of the way you cook. Yes, I am sure she already knows that and it is up to her doctor and nutritionist to discuss her eating habits with her. She hid her health issues, because she was afraid it would hurt her career and the media is just going to push that along.

Dreaded Walmart Trips

I went to Walmart today looking for some rugs and a few things. Not long after walking in the door, I remembered why I avoid that store whenever possible. Whenever you go in there, plan on spending almost two hours in the store, because it it so difficult to find everything you need. The Walmart I go to in Dearborn, the set up of the store just doesn't make sense to me. I can never find anything I'm looking for without spending way too much time wandering around. I end up walking back and forth through the sections trying to find the things I need and it seems they never have the shelves stocked. The shelves always look like they just had a mad rush of people who just cleared off the shelves. Then to make the trip to Walmart even more annoying, you spend at least 15 minutes waiting in line, because they never have enough lanes open. Every since they got busted locking illegal workers in at night, they must be trying to cut back somewhere. So, they cut back on cashiers and stock people.

Who Would Have Thought

Who would have thought a person could accumulate so much stuff hidden away in closets and on shelves? I have been in my house 13 years and I have been cleaning out all the closets and shelves in every room. My Wordless Wednesday turned into a disappearing act on Thursday, because I have been so busy clearing out and getting rid of all the stuff that is just wasting space. I haven't even gotten to every room yet and I have managed to fill up seven big contractors garbage bags full of unwanted clothing, shoes, coats, blankets, papers and so on. I didn't even know I had that much unnecessary stuff filling my closets and shelves. If you walk into my house it looks fairly organized and neat. So, I never imagined having so much stuff to get rid of.

The funny thing about it, I have never been one of those people to clutter things up with a bunch miscellaneous items. But, as you dig through those boxes and reach up onto those shelves your find old Halloween costumes the kids have grown out of, stacks of unused wrapping paper and bows, old papers you were afraid to let go of that never came into use and so many other things that I forgot that I even had.  So far I have finished the living room, my sons room, my daughters room, the storage room, kitchen and laundry room. I have yet to start my room and the downstairs family room. I am procrastinating on doing my room, because it just seems so overwhelming when I look up at the shelves I can't reach in the closets. But, that has become one of my New Years challenges is to clean out everything that is not needed and rid of any unnecessary clutter as we are preparing to move to another home.

Schools Back In Session

All the holiday decorations are down, the kids are finally back in school after winter break and my oldest is off to her first day of college. The morning started off a little ruff as the kids were having a hard time getting ready for their first day back after winter break, but the house is finally quiet and I feel like I can finally start the new year.

It just doesn't feel like the New Year until the kids are back in school, because everything feels the same. They have hit their tween years, so they don't like going to bed at night or getting up in the morning. It was a challenge to get them out of bed by 11:00 am. As I tried to get them out of bed, all I heard everyday is "It's Christmas break, why do I have to get out of bed early?" 11:00 am is early?

While the kids are were break, I decided it was time to clean out the closets and throw away anything I didn't need. There was too much stuff just building up that has no purpose. But, the task became complicated with the kids home. Who would have thought it would still be difficult to accomplish tasks when your children are 11 and 12 years old? They still make it difficult for me to complete something when they are home with the constant interruptions of I can't find anything to eat, the endless dishes and the messes on the kitchen counters every time you walk into the kitchen and lets not forget the constant mediating I have to do between the both of them. Something as simple as a phone call became a difficult task. Maybe I can finish what I started now the kids are finally back in school. Ahhhh..... I can finally breath and focus on the things I was trying to accomplish again.

A Few Banned Words of 2012

Amazing
Ginormous
Baby Bump
Man Cave
Thanks In Advance

If they are no longer allowed to say man cave, is it going to be Papas Den?

A few words or phrases I think should be banned.

Epic (anything) - I hate that word. It is EXTREMELY over used by kids.
Are you serious?
Ahhh.... Cool - That phrase should have been left in the 80's.
Idiot- What's with kids over using the word idiot?
Awesome- People get offended if you say they are anything less than awesome.
Ditto- How did Ditto come back?
Boss- Not in reference to your boss. In reference to kids saying "That's so boss!" or "I'm so boss!"

Feel free to add to the list.

An Unusual Year Ahead

The year 2012 has already has already kicked off to an unusual start. The weather is definitely warmer than usual all across the country. Fifty degree weather in Michigan during the month of January, I will take it. My daughter pointed out something unusual today, there are three Friday the 13ths during the year 2012. An all out war has broke out in Iraq already.  Hopefully they won't be sending our men and women back over there to straighten things out over there again.

I don't really believe this will be the year the world will end. But, it may be the beginning of a new world. It is completely possible, it may be the beginning of a different world. Through out history the world has evolved and changed. The generation experiencing the change never believes the changes that are going to occur. 80 years ago they never would have believed you if you said in the future people will be able to sit on their couches  using a computer accessing the entire world or we would be able to walk around talking on telephones that you could take anywhere with you. They would have thought you were crazy.

Every generation experiences a major change in society. This just may be our generation and our children's generation experiencing the change. Our generation has watched technology grow and flourish. There is always a price to pay for increasing technology. It is a catch 22. The more technology that is created, the less jobs people are needed for to perform. People are being replaced with technology. Our environment has a price to pay for all the new technology. Therefore, we may experience global warming to a certain extent, more volcanoes, earthquakes and more environmental disasters.

I think we are looking at a different way of life. Technology has soared into the future, while it feels like people are falling back into the past. Our generation will have to be the generation that will have to learn how to embrace the changes that are happening and find new innovative ways to work. But, there are going to be those who fall between the cracks of change.

I don't really think we are looking at one catastrophic event happening and poof our world is going to be different. At least I hope that's not what we are looking at happening. It is possible to have several catastrophic events through out an extended time for all the chemicals we pump into the air and water to innovate all of our new technology. Eventually, it will catch up with us.

We have seen the Y2K and the 11/11/11 come and go. I think we will see the 12/21/2012 come and go along with the rest of the predictions. But, I think the year 2012 will be remembered as the year the United States has changed as a society. Our way of life will be changed forever. This economic recession we are suffering from will be the beginning of a new society and a new way of life.

Just as the Hoover was blamed for the Great Depression in the history books. Obama will be in the history books as taking down Osama Bin Laden and the Great Recession of 2012. Even though the recession began before he came into office, he will be blamed for the economic fall of our country.

I think we will be looking a  larger class division between the wealthy and the poor, the middle class is fading out. People have achieved the "American Dream" and are watching it slip right through their fingers. The cost of living is increasing making it more difficult for the ones who have managed to keep their jobs to maintain the way of life they are used to.

As more and more people lose their jobs, they become more desperate looking for ways to survive and the crime rate is increasing. Just as it has increased through out history.

What it all boils down to is, history always repeats itself. I don't think we will be living in this dark world where half our population will be wiped out during one big catastrophic event. We are looking at a different way of life that will be harder to achieve success and a lot of people will struggle and fall between the cracks. Our way of life will change and demand the need for more technology to be created. Our children or our children's children will be living in a different society than we knew of as we were achieving the "American Dream" and the path of change will not be a glorious path of change for our generation.

Home Set On Fire In A Hate Crime

In Anne Arundel Count, Md, a home was set on fire and sexual and racial slurs were painted on the side of the house on New Years Day. Two elderly women and their caretaker were not in the home at the time, the neighbor was awoken by what she thinks sounded like someone banging on the door when she discovered the house on fire. It took 30 firefighters and 20 minutes to distinguish the flames, causing $150,000 in damage to the home. Someone had spray painted sexual and racial slurs on the side of the house, which were too offensive to be shown. Anne Arundel County Fire Department Division Chief Michael Cox said, he didn't know if they had reported any harassment in the past.

Investigators and arson dogs were called to the scene and found traces of accelerate inside the home. Now the whole neighborhood is on edge wondering who set the fire to the home.

“It’s terrible. I mean, it’s very surprising,” said one neighbor.

“That is a hate crime. It is an arson. That’s what’s actually frightening, to think that there’s a crazy person out here, just committing these kind of crimes,” said another.

Santorum's Slip

Republican hopeful Rick Santorum, spat out a racist comment during the Iowa caucus on Monday and showed his true colors when he said, “I don’t want to make black peoples’ lives better by giving them somebody else’s money,” Mr. Santorum said. “I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money and provide for themselves and for their families.” when he was talking about welfare reform.

Now the Republican hopeful is trying to cover up his slip by saying  he didn't actually say "black people" at all and was misheard. Of course, he is going to try and cover his ass on that slip. Who is going to elect a racist president. But, it's too late to turn back the clock on his racist comment. The comment is already embedded in the minds of millions of nonwhite voters. According to the Iowa statistics, 84% of welfare recipients are white. So, where did that comment come from? It came from his delusional views on the association of race and welfare. In today's economy, that wasn't a smart comment to make. There are a lot of people out there who forced to turn to welfare to take care of their families, because of politicians like Rick Santorum.

Two Teens Charged With Racial Intimidation

Four families in Spring Hill had a terrifying start to the New Year after two teens vandalized their homes with racial slurs New Year's Eve.

Authorities say the two teens spray-painted racial slurs and swastikas on the homes and hung a noose at some of the houses. The teens vandalized four homes New Year's Eve at a subdivision off Mason Lane in Spring Hill.

The two Spring Hill teens, Dakota Calderhead, 19, and his friend Kristian Mathis, 18 are facing charges including vandalism and racial intimidation for defacing four homes with disturbing messages of hate. The teens are also looking at being faced with federal charges once the FBI finishes their investigation.

Some parents just do not understand what they are doing to their own children and others by not teaching their children diversity and compassion for others. Teaching a child hate can destroy their lives. Now, because they failed to teach their children compassion and the understanding of diversity, they will pay the price for the rest of their lives. College is most likely out for these two teens, difficulty finding jobs and federal convictions hanging over their heads for the rest of their lives.

This crime will live with the children and their families whose homes were vandalized for the rest of their lives. I am sure they will never forget what happened to their home that night. Why? Because a couple of parents failed to do their job as parents. Now the state of Tennessee and the tax payers is left to finish raising the two teens.

My New Year's Hope

Well, 2012 is finally here. The year the world is supposed come to an end according Nostradamus. We had a nice little celebration at home this year celebrating with my family and friends. The kids had a great time drinking the sparkling white grape juice and blowing the horns. The way they were blowing their horns, you would have thought there were twenty people in the room. But that is the fun part,  knowing your making memories for your children that will last a lifetime. They had so much fun, they didn't want to seem to let the night go. They enjoyed playing with our friends kids so much they didn't want to go to bed at 5:00 am.

With all the fun, I'm still having trouble getting excited about the new year. I guess I never really did get the hype about a new year, it's just another year to me. That's probably why I never make a New Year's resolution that I know I will most likely break.

Instead of making a resolution, I am just hoping things will start to turn around for the United States and hope the economy will improve, people will start going back to work to something other than low paying jobs and people will stop losing their homes. I am just hoping 2012 will be better than 2011 for a lot people and our faith in our government to make the United States a better place to live will be restored.

Happy New Year!
